Tram with a View The Franschoek Wine Tram is absolutely loads of fun and although it looks complicated at first it’s actually quite intuitive and you’re spoon fed once you make your choice of line. Embarkation is at the terminal in Franschoek, there’s a ticket office where you share your email confirmation and are issued with a paper ticket and they sell coffee and souvenirs. The different lines do share the tram/bus and announcements are made on board about when and where to get on and off dependent on your colour. The guides are warm, fun and informative and the transport is original; obviously the scenery is spectacular, Franschoek is utterly beautiful and the routes show the panoramic vistas all thr way through. It’s hard to decide which lines to choose and you obviously can’t pack everything in to one day; I chose the orange line because I wanted to visit Boschendal and Babylonstoren where I’d booked lunch at the deli and the last wine cellar tour respectively. I overheard other people talking about having booked multiple days which I think is sensible if you’re really into understanding all the the different vineyards rather than just having ’an experience’. If you book the last cellar tour at Boschendal though you’d need to arrange return transport because it finishes too late for the tram. Unfortunately my husband was unwell so I did my tour alone and cancelled lunch at Boschendal and the cellar tour at Babylonstoren. Both estates were pleasant, Boschendal felt more of an authentic working farm, Babylonstoren was prettier but more commercial. It wa Christmas so they were all rammed. I feel lucky that we had booked Christmas lunch at the Leeu Eatates the day before, which was gorgeous, as we missed out on some of the experience. It’s totally worth it though. But book the tour, your lunches and your wine tastings in advance - especially in high season.

Wonderful day out I did exceptional wine and food pairing . I was picked up from my hotel and taken out to franshoek . The tour started at 10am and there was 12 of us on tour. Started with coffee and then on bus we went to first tasing and wines, all delicious, then back to main area to get tram next stop bubbles and truffles on tram, before sellar tour and wander around grounds and lunch with wine pairings, as I don’t eat meat there was extra vegetation options for me but so much happily shared. Finally on to last dessert pairing. By this time was all so full. Would’ve been nice with cheese selection but was sweet desserts which were lovely but felt little rushed here and to much sweet. Back to the main area for 5.45. It was wonderful day and fully enjoyed it and recommend. !!

Franschhoek Wine Tram We were transported to the Franschhoek in a luxary motorcoach. Once there, we went to several wineries via tram or bus. The only suggestion I have is to remind the customer which stop is the last to take you back to the terminal. That was not clearly conveyed. Overall, we had a great time and recommend.

Beautiful and unique experience This trip is worth it just for the beautifully scenery. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the area is, and you have constant views of it while riding the tram and bus. This was a fun and unique experience. It did get to be quite a long day, but it gave me the opportunity to see 5 different wine estates. The Trip Advisor booking for the time of year I went was limited to the Navy Line so my comments are based on wineries are based on the Navy line. My favorite wineries were Vrede en Lust and Brittany. I felt Allee Bleue was too busy and commercial. This is a must do activity.

A relaxing, classy and very cool experience. A relaxing, classy and very cool experience. The meals accompanying the wine were all tasty. The wines were all paired very well with these different meals. The wines themselves were also fantastic! The sculpture garden at one of the wineries was very interesting as well as the various tour guides explaining the different wines to us. The best part was meeting and talking to all the other tourists from around the world who were also taking this tour.
