Hop-on Hop-off Tour Tips
Everything you need to know to be fully prepared for your day trip on the Wine Tram.
Before the Day
PICKING A LINE
Before choosing a line, read about the estates and the activities they offer. Consult the timetable of the line you wish to travel on, and plan your day around this timetable. Keep in mind that you may not be able to visit all the estates on each line. Also take note of the maximum number of stops mentioned for each departure time in the schedule, and remember that not all wine estates are located next to the railway tracks – we make use of an open-sided bus to travel to these estates.
BOOKING YOUR TICKETS
Book your tickets in advance, especially if you want to travel on a specific line and depart at a specific time. You can book online right here. Please note that our last departure is at 13:30 on our red line.
BOOKING YOUR DINING
Planning on having lunch or a picnic at an estate? Phone the estate and book in advance. Some restaurants might be closed on the day of your tour. Click here for a list of restaurants with contact details.
BOOKING YOUR TRANSFER

On the Day
Make use of the parking at our Groot Drakenstein Station if you are travelling on our purple and orange lines and prefer to depart from there.
COLLECTING YOUR TICKETS
Collect your tickets at least 15 minutes before the tour starts from the ticket office.
If you’re travelling on the orange and purple lines, you have the option of collecting your tickets and commencing the tour at our Groot Drakenstein Station ticket office, located on the corner of the R45 and R310 roads.
PREPPING AND PACKING FOR YOUR DAY
Be sure to have a good breakfast before the tour, and drink lots of water throughout the day.
Feel free to grab a cup of coffee and a snack at the Terminal before your departure. Please note that no food and drinks are allowed on the tram and tram-bus.
Pack sunblock and a jacket (for colder days), as the tram and tram-bus are open-sided.
Make sure your phone is charged, as you’re going to want to take photos. If you’re planning on sharing them on social media, we’d love to see them, so please add #winetram to your posts!
If you’re planning on buying wine while on your tour, please consider purchasing our wine tote bag, which includes a discount card for use at participating estates. All proceeds go to the charity that manufactures the bags.
Wine purchased while on the tour can be handed over to the driver for collection at the end of the tour. Your purchases will be marked with a sticker, and you’ll receive a corresponding sticker, which you can hand in when collecting your wine at the ticket office at the end of the tour.
