How Religious Persecution Gave Rise to South Africa’s Best Wines
The wine making estates in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, not far from Cape Town, are famous for producing the very best wines in South Africa, and the history of the region is fascinating. Take the unique and highly enjoyable Franschhoek Valley Wine Tram tour and you will learn how, more than 300 years ago, immigrants from France – fleeing persecution because of their religious beliefs – settled on the valley as the ideal place to grow vines, and began a wine making tradition that prevails in the valley to this day.

We offer two complimentary wine tastings at selected estates along the route with each adult ticket, so you can sample some of the finest wines in the world. It’s an experience that is not repeated elsewhere, and while on the tram you also get an expert narration as to the origin of the estates, and the development of wine making in the region to the standards of today.
