Our Story

Le Pommier, meaning "The Apple Tree" in French, takes its name from the apple orchard that once occupied this historic property. A handful of the original apple trees still remain, quietly preserving the legacy of the estate.

The farm forms part of the historic Banhoek Valley, whose story dates back to 1692 when neighbouring Zorgvliet was granted to Austrian-born settler Casper Wilders. Over more than three centuries the property has evolved from a working farm into one of Stellenbosch's most welcoming wine estates, while carefully preserving its authentic country character.

Many of today's buildings have fascinating histories of their own. The restaurant was once a farm outbuilding used for storing animal feed, while the original farmhouse has been lovingly transformed into charming country accommodation. In recent years, Le Pommier has continued to grow with winelands accommodation, a purpose-built Vineyard Barn wedding venue and vineyards producing our acclaimed Cabernet Franc, Malbec wines and Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Today, Le Pommier honours its heritage while embracing the future—offering visitors authentic Winelands experiences built around exceptional food, handcrafted wines and heartfelt hospitality.
