THE BEST WAY TO DISCOVER THE FRANSCHHOEK VALLEY

Experience! I have heard a lot of good things about the Franschhoek Wine Tram so when I got the opportunity to experience it for myself, I immediately grabbed it; and what an experience it was! The tram consists out of various routes which group different wine farms together. Depending on the route you choose, you will get the opportunity to either go on the tram itself or the tram-bus which is designed to look like the tram. Our group chose the yellow route (which includes the tram and the tram-bus) and we visited Grande Provence and Franschhoek Cellar (both reviewed separately) which are both on the main tram route. I loved how the tram has an old-school feel to it, and although it mostly has inside seating, it does have some outside options as well. It also has 2 levels, with the upper level giving you even better views of the beautiful Franschhoek valley. Something which I really enjoyed was how they give you some history and information about the next farm you are visiting, and we even got a small glass of wine as we left the main station to get us ready for the excursion. We had a great time and even my 3-year-old loved it. This should be a bucket list item for everyone, and I will definitely be back.

Wonderful Wine Tram! The Franschhoeck Wine Tram Tour was a nice experience. At first, the schedules were a little confusing, but the staff helped us organize our day with some great suggestions. At our travel consultant’s advice, we chose the purple line. The days leading up to our visit were quite rainy, so some of the tram time was switched to buses due to some flooding. It was fine though—you can’t control the weather! The tram itself is wonderful—so cute! We actually only ended up visiting two wineries because we just relaxed and enjoyed the day and the experiences. You can totally visit more though with a well planned day. We visited Boschendal first, and then Babylonstoren (separate reviews). Both were very lovely, and lunch at Babylonstoren was excellent!! The whole experience was great. It was our first day in South Africa, so it was also nice to have a relaxing day to recover from the long flights. Highly recommend doing this if you go to South Africa!

A must do attraction If in Franschooek you must do the wine tram. Great experience, but note that not all your day is on the tram, actually more time on a bus. Very well organised and a fun day out.

An absolute must do on any SA trip Just wow! We loved the Wine Tram experience and also Franschoek is just absolutely stunning! This is an absolute must for any trip to Cape Town. We only had time for one wine trip experience and all the recommendations we had from friends were to do Franschoek over Stellenbosch. We did the Green Route although to be honest I don’t think it really matters which one you do as all the wine houses are incredible. Our favourite was Haute Cabriere as the views from the terrace there are just incredible as is their wine. As I say a must do for Cape Town visitors.

Awesome experience An absolute amazing experience. Lovely staff. Very helpful as my one friend recently had a knee replacement and they helped her on and of the tram with great patience. Very informative. Runs on time.

Wonderful way to travel A wonderful way to get around and sample the local wine estates. Lovely old fashioned tram along with a complimentary drink. If we’d stayed in Franschoek longer, would have tried some of the other routes.

Fantastic experience on the Wine and Cuisine tour Four of us booked onto the Exceptional Wine and Cuisine trip. What an experience. We had a fantastic day with Cayla our guide. We were taken to three beautiful wine estates and had food and plenty of wine tasting at each. The chef at each location came out and talked us through the food we were eating and each of the wines were described to us in great detail as well. Everyone was really knowledgeable and welcoming. We had a great day and would recommend others to do this tour.
